Elf Mage (Unleashed) is an S-tier Mythic carry for players who want a critical-hit and follow-up build. Arcane charges convert regular attacks into extra line and circle attacks, so the unit scales through more than its visible sheet damage. A good build balances crit, attack cadence, and enemy coverage instead of chasing one stat.

How to evolve Elf Mage into Unleashed
The published evolution recipe is:
- 1 Cosmic Magic
- 20 Blue Sprites
- 20 Purple Sprites
- 1 Rainbow Sprite
- 5,000 Gold
Confirm the recipe in Evolution before pressing the button. Keep Cosmic Magic locked and avoid spending the Rainbow Sprite on a lower-priority evolution if Elf Mage is your main carry.
How Arcane follow-ups work
Elf Mage builds Arcane charges through its attack cycle, then consumes or resets those charges to release extra attacks. The exact trigger state matters because the follow-ups have different shapes. A line attack is best when the path approaches the unit in a straight segment; a circle attack is better when enemies bunch around a bend.
Do not evaluate the unit from the regular attack alone. Count regular attacks, charge events, line follow-ups, circle follow-ups, critical hits, and total damage over the same fixed boss window. A build with a slightly lower card number can win if it reaches another Arcane trigger.
Best Trait for Elf Mage
Forsaken is the recommended Trait because its Critical Chance and Critical Damage directly support the follow-up carry plan while extra Range improves coverage. Primordial is a reliable alternative when you prefer consistent Damage and SPA, or when your account cannot yet support a crit build. Unbound is still a premium roll, but do not erase it simply because a tier list calls Forsaken the best fit.
Keep the same equipment and Potential when testing Traits. Otherwise, a lucky critical sequence can make a weaker setup look better than it is.
Best equipment
Elven Battle Staff drops from King’s Tomb and rolls reduced SPA plus Damage. Its documented passive adds an Old Magic line AoE at three charges for 100% current damage and an Eruption circle AoE at five charges for 125% current damage plus Slow. This is the strongest documented equipment synergy for the Arcane loop; verify the current charge wording in the live item tooltip.
Magic Book is a straightforward Magical-damage option from King’s Tomb. Shinigami Sword can support a crit test, but the published base values are from a sample roll and the drop map remains TBA. Compare total rotations before replacing Elven Battle Staff.
Best teammates
Forbidden Teacher is the direct Magical buffer and gains a larger team buff as it upgrades. Shadow (Divine) also creates a Magical-friendly zone and contributes summons. Puppet adds amplification and rewinds a boss into the Arcane kill zone, while Salmon Sorcerer keeps grouped enemies lined up for follow-ups.
For a balanced team, use Elf Mage as the main wave carry, one matching Magical buffer, one control unit, Puppet or another amplifier, and an economy slot when the mode permits. Do not stack supports so heavily that you cannot afford Elf Mage’s important upgrades.
Placement by attack shape
Place Elf Mage beside a straight approach that ends in a bend. The line follow-up can travel through the approach, while the circle follow-up catches the group at the turn. Avoid isolated corners where one attack shape consistently misses the path.
In Story and Raids, prioritize a repeatable shared lane. In Tournament, test the same position in practice before committing because enemy speed can change whether the five-charge circle lands. For bosses, place Puppet or control behind Elf Mage’s first contact point so a rewind returns the target through the same line.
Common mistakes
- Comparing only the visible attack number and excluding Arcane follow-ups.
- Using Forsaken without enough upgrades or equipment to benefit from crit scaling.
- Placing for the circle while the line follow-up misses most enemies.
- Equipping a sample-roll Shinigami Sword without testing against Elven Battle Staff.
- Spending Cosmic Magic or the Rainbow Sprite before confirming the evolution screen.
Quick answers
Is Elf Mage good without Elven Battle Staff?
Yes. The unit’s own Arcane kit still makes it a strong Mythic carry. The staff adds the most direct documented synergy and should be a long-term farm target.
Should I use Forsaken or Primordial?
Use Forsaken for the optimized crit build. Keep Primordial when you need consistent performance or do not yet have the equipment and upgrades that make repeated critical follow-ups reliable.
