Use this hub when you need an answer before spending Gems, Trait Crystals, evolution materials, or equipment rerolls. The release roster has 33 known units, but rarity alone does not tell you whether a unit is a damage carry, crowd controller, buffer, summoner, or economy pick.
Start with your question
Current role leaders
- Top raw damage: 8th Sword (Berserk), with full-area coverage and a strong Berserk payoff.
- Top hybrid carries: Shadow (Divine) and Puppet (Telekinetic), because both combine damage with team utility.
- Top Mythic carries: Cursed Student (True Love), Elf Mage (Unleashed), and Lady Giant (Envy).
- Top control: Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1) and String Demon (Awakened).
- Accessible buffers: The Hero for Physical teams and Forbidden Teacher for Magical teams.
- Economy choices: Ramen Guy and Stone Alchemist are the named farm picks, although their exact income formulas still need a live-panel check.
Build a six-slot team by job
A balanced team normally needs one affordable opener, one wave-clear carry, one boss or scaling carry, one control unit, one buffer or damage amplifier, and one flexible slot. The flex can become economy in Story, another boss killer in Raids, or extra control in a Tournament.
Do not copy a six-unit screenshot without checking damage types. The Hero only buffs Physical units. Forbidden Teacher buffs Magical units. Hollow becomes more useful when another unit keeps Burn active, while Cursed Student wants reliable Bleed and a strong nearby copy target.
What to check on every unit page
- Obtain method and whether the unit is still available.
- Base or evolved form used by the ranking.
- Damage type, attack shape, placement cap, and total upgrade cost.
- Best trait and a realistic stopping trait.
- Unit-specific equipment, its Story map, and any unfinished tooltip text.
- Teammates that activate the kit instead of merely adding rarity.
Release naming notes
Some current sources use both 8th Sword (Berserk) and 8th Sword (Berserker). The release log and launch tier coverage use Berserk, so this guide uses that form while retaining the longer variant where players may search it. The in-game roster also uses Reaper (Released), while some launch coverage calls the same unit Soul Reaper (Released).

Quick answers
What is the best unit in Anime Expeditions?
8th Sword currently leads raw damage, but Shadow and Puppet can be better team additions when their utility solves the map. Your mode, trait, equipment, and available supports still matter.
Should every Legendary be replaced by a Mythic?
No. The Hero, Forbidden Teacher, Ice Queen, Water Princess, Ramen Guy, and Scissor can keep useful jobs after you obtain Mythics.
